Due to Covid, some activities listed are now on hold as we try to decrease the spread of the virus and also work to be responsible to our patrons and volunteers. Please check back often for updates.
Born in 1995 as an 501c3 organization to grow the arts in the Manistee area, the MAI was an integral part of restoring the historic Ramsdell Theatre. For many years, the MAI resided at the Ramsdell Theatre where they had an office, conducted classes
and held as many as 5 major exhibits a year. Throughout three months in the summer the MAI also orchestrated many smaller
exhibits every week showcasing as many as 3-5 different local artists each week. In 2014, the MAI opened a sales gallery for local
artists on River Street downtown. Just prior to Covid, The MAI purchased a permanent home at 437 River Street.
Classes are offered during the year and Life Drawing every Saturday has been well attended for several years.
For at least 15 years, the MAI has awarded at least 2 scholarships to graduating seniors in Manistee county.
In 2017 the MAI started up a very successful annual Kids Kamp that hosted 41 youth and gave each one, art experiences in several disciplines.
At this time board members include:
Kerry Schubach - President
Diana Monovitch - Vice President
Shelia Marriott - Treasure
Melinda Seldon - Secretary
